Welcome to cmcdonald.com!

I'm the Online Projects and Data Editor at the Austin American-Statesman. I've worked at four different newspapers in the Cox Media Group, and I've been working in digital since 2001, when I started statesman.com.

I'm also a lecturer at the University of Texas, teaching Reporting with Data. I also have taught Data Visualization.

I'm a founding member of ONA Austin and the Austin chapter of Hacks/Hackers.

When my kids were younger, I was heavily involved with Boy Scout units Troop 448 and Team 448, chartered by the Knights of Columbus out of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. I serve on the Thunderbird District Committee as a Unit Commissioner and a member of the Advancement Committee. I have served on staff four times for the adult leadership training course, Wood Badge. In the summer of 2017, I'll serve on staff for our council's National Youth Leadership Training course.

I have two sons and the best wife in the world.

Life couldn't be better.
