Welcome to cmcdonald.com!

I'm the Online Projects and Data Editor at the Austin American-Statesman. I've worked at four different newspapers in the Cox Media Group, and I've been working in the online space since 2001, when I started statesman.com.

I'm also a lecturer at the University of Texas, teaching Data-Driven Reporting and Data Visualization.

I'm a founding member of ONA Austin and the Austin chapter of Hacks/Hackers, and I help out on the Tableau Public Advisory Board.

When my kids were younger, I was heavily involved with Boy Scout units Troop 448 and Team 448, chartered by the Knights of Columbus out of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. I serve on the Thunderbird District Committee as a Unit Commissioner and a member of the Advancement Committee. I'm Wood Badge trained and have served on staff three times. My fourth stint will be as SPL for the Fall 2016 course.

I have two teenage sons and the best wife in the world.

Life couldn't be better.
